Binge or Compulsive Eating

the compulsion to overeat large amounts of food in a short period of time

Are you caught up in a cycle of restricting your eating followed by binging on a large volume of food which you’ve gone out and bought specially and then eaten in secret? Binging can be a way of zoning out from difficult thoughts or uncomfortable feelings such as boredom and loneliness. There is comfort in the moment of binging but what follows can be feelings of shame, disgust and guilt.

Anorexia

the obsessive desire to keep weight low through restricted eating and/or excessive exercising

Anorexia is a complex and serious mental health condition with physical risks. The drive to be thin results in the avoidance of foods, which are perceived to be fattening, often alongside vomiting and excessive exercise leading to potential dramatic weight loss. Low mood, fear and anxiety around mealtimes with ritualised and rigid eating, feeling fat and social withdrawals are some of the symptoms of anorexia.
